Rose Joan Gabrenya

InfantweddingRose Joan Gabrenya, né Lupo, devoted and loving wife of 65 years to William Gabrenya, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on May 6, 2011 in Melbourne, Florida following a two year struggle with cancer. She is survived by her two children, William Gabrenya Jr. of Palm Bay, Florida and Mark Gabrenya of Lexington, Massachusetts; their wives, Yue-Eng Wang and Wendy Gabrenya; two sisters, Marilyn Basich and Margaret McDonald; and four grandchildren. She was an aunt and a great aunt to many.

Rose was a member if the Nights of Columbus Auxiliary of Willowick, Ohio, the Isabella Society (Order of the Alhambra) of Willoughby, Ohio, the Catholic Christian Women of St. John the Evangelist parish, and the Red Hat Society. Rose loved to travel in the Americas and Europe, culminating in a trans-Atlantic cruise from Italy to Florida in 2007 with her husband. She succeeded, perhaps more than she wished, in passing her enthusiasm for travel on to her children and grandchildren.

Bill1952Will1982Rose was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1925 of Giovanni Lupo, an immigrant from Campobasso, Italy, and Carmela Christine De Palma. She graduated from Rhodes High School, class of 1943. She moved with her husband to Naples in 2001 after they enjoyed many years in Naples as snowbirds.

A gathering of friends will be held at Hodges Funeral Home, 525 111th Ave. N., Naples from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, May 15. A mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Naples at Noon on Monday, May 16.
