Opportunities, Requirements

Selection Criteria

  1. Support from the Fund is specifically limited to study in Taiwan at an accredited university in Taiwan.
  2. The length of stay in Taiwan must be at least one month or longer, with a full-semester duration of study in Taiwan strongly preferred.
  3. Applicants must be in good academic standing at the time of the application.
  4. Matriculation must be in:
    1. A credit-granting course, in any subject, that will be certified by the Registrar to transfer 1 or more credits back to FIT if a grade of C or better is earned; or
    2. An accredited Mandarin Chinese or Taiwanese language program associated with an accredited university in Taiwan.
  1. Applicants must be American citizens.
  2. Applicants must not be 1st or 2nd generation immigrants from Taiwan or other Chinese heritage nations, as the intention of this award is to support new cross-cultural experiences.
  3. Students in any major may apply.

Selection Process

Applicants will be solicited and identified by the Study Abroad Office based on FIT and Taiwan university schedules. Applicants will be provided information about suitable academic or language study programs in Taiwan and will be asked to indicate their preference in the application. A committee including the Director of Study Abroad, the Director of International Student Scholar Services (ISSS), and a faculty member will review applications and make final decisions on awardees and alternates.

Recipient Obligations

Upon returning from Taiwan, the student will be required to evaluate his/her experience and write an essay describing his/her activities, challenges, and suggestions for future students. This will be forwarded as well to the Office of Development for long-term stewardship and reporting on the fund. Any portion of the funding not required to be given earlier may be withheld until this obligation is satisfied.
